The Best Of The Best: Facebook Marketing

by Kristy Bolsinger on December 8, 2009

In delving deeper into the world of Facebook marketing I found it was harder to come up with good resources than I had originally thought.  Unlike Twitter, there aren’t an overwhelming number of “social media experts” offering up their sure fire way to “master” the site.  What I did find though is some very high quality, targeted posts by some of the people in the search/social industry that I respect the most.  What I give to you today is the best and most relevant information on Facebook marketing that I was able to dig up.

Inside Facebook Pages

This is a great place to start in my opinion, to get a grasp on what is going on in the world of Facebook pages.  An especially interesting point for all those aspiring to Facebook-ey greatness: Only 4% of pages have more than 10K followers.

How To Create Rich HTML Tabs on Facebook

As I’m pretty clueless on HTML, let alone FBML this post is a wee bit beyond me technically speaking.  However, there are a lot of great ideas for what you could do, or in my case mock up and have someone in your dev/design team do.  No, but seriously, even if you don’t know how to create this type of thing yourself, as a SM professional I believe it’s critical to know what is possible within the Facebook environment and the rules surrounding it.  This is a must read for anyone working in Facebook.

Hi deakaz! I have seen cases where each channel performed in excess of the other. It totally depended on the demo and execution in each case. Knowing where your time is most effectively spent in something that needs to be defined early on in order to optimize your time – so kudos to you!!

Great post. I really like this:
“Unlike Twitter, there aren’t an overwhelming number of “social media experts” offering up their sure fire way to “master” the site.”

When did getting 10K followers become a bench mark for being a social media guru?

As far as the facebook stuff goes, when used effectively, I think it works really well for companies or web sites with “brands”. Facebook is used differently than Twitter and *generally* users friend and fan people, products, and companies they know and/or love. On twitter, it’s much easier to get a large follower and tweet shortened URLs to any web sites.

The thing is the company with the brand and identity can be promoted easily on twitter as well.

My thoughts anyway…

Just found this via the Wave. Thanks for putting these links together; I think have some of them, but it’s nice to have them all in one spot.
